Mike Bellamy

Mike Bellamy specializes in large-scale custom color work— backpieces, sleeves and bodysuits that hit hard and hold up for life.

His style is rooted in traditional Japanese design,  American Traditional and what he calls “90’s style tattooing”—big, bold, expressive work with real presence.— interpreted, rebuilt, and made personal for each client.

Mike came to New York in 1989 to study illustration at Parsons School of Design, and started tattooing underground in the era of Tattoo Society meetings at CBGB Gallery—long before the West 4th Street shops, the national boom, before shows like Miami Ink.—back when tattooing wasn’t even legal.

For 5 years he worked underground at Crooklyn’s Cave, Huggy Bear Tattoo, and Inkline Studio. In 1998, he co-founded Triple X Tattoo—evolving into Red Rocket Tattoo—and has been building it into a cornerstone NYC shop ever since.

Mike has tattooed across the U.S. and internationally—Europe, Japan, Mexico—and has been featured in tattoo and fine art publications worldwide. He’s also worked behind the scenes as a liaison with the New York City Tattoo Convention and the Department of Health.

Beyond tattooing, he’s a serious fine artist, illustrator and proud family man living the dream.
